Increasing Internet Access in Jones County to Help Improve Health Outcomes

Lack of high-speed internet can significantly impact access to education, healthcare and economic opportunities for youth and families living below the poverty line. CareSource is helping to bridge this digital divide to better the overall wellbeing for communities in rural Georgia.
Through a partnership with Tri-CoGo and a $50,000 contribution, CareSource helped to establish four 24/7 free Wi-Fi anchor locations across Jones County, making highspeed internet accessible to residents in safe public places like recreation centers and parks. This initiative has enabled community members to access the internet by simply scanning a QR code, helping to ensure equitable access which can lead to improved outcomes.
In addition to expanding internet access, CareSource furthers this commitment to improving access by providing technology resources. Through a collaboration with Jones County Family Connection, CareSource provided 35 students Chromebooks for use in their pursuit of post-secondary education. These Chromebooks are also used to for health care needs like communicating with health care providers or accessing telehealth appointments. Members have also been referred to state agencies like Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation to enable them to connect with workforce readiness and development resources to support their employment goals.
CareSource’s investments in high-speed internet access and new technology demonstrates our commitment to improving health and academic outcomes to enhance the overall wellbeing of families in rural Georgia.
